Every year on 1 August in the UK

National Girlfriend Day: a day for the women who make life better.

Thank your girlfriend, or the close friends who always have your back. National Girlfriend Day is a simple reason to say what you usually leave unsaid.

What is National Girlfriend Day?

National Girlfriend Day falls on 1 August every year. It is an unofficial day with no single organiser, and nobody knows for sure who started it. Some people use it to thank their girlfriend. Others use it to celebrate the close female friends who have always been there for them. Both are welcome here.

The next one is on Sunday 1 August 2027. It comes two months before National Boyfriend Day on 3 October.

Simple ways to mark the day

Say it

Tell her one thing she does that makes your life better. Say it out loud, or write it down and leave it where she will find it.

Head outside

Early August suits outdoor plans. A picnic, a walk by the water or dinner in a garden all count.

Gather your girls

Thank the friends who have had your back for years. A group message is good. A long brunch is better.

Keep it personal

Skip the big spend. A playlist, an old photo or her favourite snack often says more than a pricey present.

For brands

Jewellery, beauty, flowers, fashion, dinners out and dating apps all have a natural place on National Girlfriend Day. We work with a small number of partners each year.
